Restoration before posture

Spine Alignment Yoga Therapy is a modern evolution of spine-focused therapeutic practice, inspired by principles of Critical Alignment, developed over 40 years of clinical research in Amsterdam, and expanded through psychosomatic bodywork, nervous system re-education, and movement chain science.

Where conventional yoga begins with postures, this method begins with restoration. The spine is addressed first: its natural architecture recovered, chronic tension patterns dissolved, and then active yoga practice is layered in.

This is root-cause correction: releasing residual tension from superficial movement muscles, reactivating dormant deep postural stabilisers, and retraining the nervous system's relationship to gravity, breath, and load.

A therapy-first system for structural freedom

i.

Therapeutic Before Active

The method deliberately sequences restoration ahead of movement: first recover the musculoskeletal system, then introduce safe, structurally sound yoga practice.

ii.

Psychosomatic Integration

Physical tension patterns are inseparable from nervous system states. The work sits at the intersection of structural bodywork and somatic awareness.

iii.

Movement Chain Science

All spinal movement is understood through interconnected bone-based chains, moving progressively from passive release to active strength.

iv.

Nervous System Re-Education

Beyond stretching and strengthening, the method reprograms motor patterns so the brain engages postural muscles correctly and sustainably.

The Therapy to Yoga Pathway

Most yoga training assumes a healthy spine. This one does not.

When therapeutic restoration comes first, every layer of yoga practice that follows becomes safer, deeper, and more genuinely transformative.

Steap 1

Restore the Musculoskeletal System

Release chronic hypertonia, decompress the spine, and correct pathological postural patterns accumulated through sedentary or asymmetrical load.

Steap 2

Re-educate the Nervous System

Reprogram motor patterns and proprioceptive feedback loops so the body holds its natural architecture through correct muscular intelligence.

Steap 3

Build Structural Integrity

Activate dormant postural stabilisers and develop deep strength that creates real spinal support, distinct from surface tension.

Steap 4

Enter Yoga Practice Safely

With a restored, aligned, and neurologically recalibrated body, begin or deepen yoga practice that is genuinely therapeutic.

  • Design sessions that heal, not just strengthen.
  • Earn a certified diploma in yoga therapy.

For Physiotherapists & Bodyworkers

  • Add yoga therapy to clinical or studio practice.
  • Bridge somatic, structural, and nervous system work.
  • Expand client outcomes beyond the physical.
  • Gain a formally certified yoga therapy qualification.
Therapeutic Outcomes

What the body learns to recover.

01

Spinal Decompression & Chronic Tension Release

Targeted passive work releases deep stabiliser muscles that conventional movement and massage cannot access.

Noticeable reduction in pain and stiffness within initial sessions.
02

Restoration of Natural Spinal Architecture

Direct correction of hyperkyphosis, flattened lordosis, and chronic forward-head patterns.

Reduced rounded shoulders. Lighter standing. Fuller breath.
03

Diaphragmatic Function & Systemic Regulation

Releasing thoracic and rib cage tension restores full diaphragmatic breathing and supports autonomic regulation.

Increased vitality, reduced anxiety, improved cognitive function.
04

Neuromuscular Efficiency & Movement Freedom

Motor-pattern re-education teaches the brain to recruit correct muscles and activate dormant postural intelligence.

Effortless movement. Reduced injury risk. A new body relationship.
Daily Schedule

A full residential rhythm of practice, analysis, and integration.

Each day moves from embodied therapeutic experience into methodology, anatomy, applied yoga therapy, and evening integration.

Morning Demonstrative Therapeutic Session

Live facilitated session with therapeutic props, each morning focused on a theme or movement chain.

Breakfast

Vegetarian meal included in all residential packages.

TTC Methodology Seminar

Analysis of the morning session, design logic, prop applications, sequencing theory, and teaching methodology.

Lunch

Vegetarian meal included in all residential packages.

Anatomy, Physiology & Applied Yoga Therapy

Functional anatomy of spine, pelvis, and thoracic cavity, with movement chains, pathology, nervous system science, and assessment protocols.

Evening Therapeutic Session

Closing integration, consolidating learning somatically and preparing the system for deep rest.

Programme Modules

Six modules across method, anatomy, teaching, and assessment.

01

Method Principles & Philosophy

J-spine theory, movement chain science, and the therapy-first approach.

02

Therapeutic Prop Work

Passive release, active loading, and individualised student needs.

03

Spinal Anatomy & Pathology

Functional anatomy with focus on common pathological patterns and corrective protocols.

04

Nervous System & Psychosomatics

Neuromuscular re-education, proprioception, autonomic regulation, and chronic tension.

05

Session Design & Teaching Practice

Individual protocols, group sessions, sequencing, cueing, and safe assessment frameworks.

06

Posturology & Client Assessment

Reading postural deviations, intake methodology, progress tracking, and professional language.

Therapeutic Props

Precision, not intensity.

The method uses key therapeutic props evolved from Dutch clinical practice to access tissue and movement chains conventional exercises and massage cannot reach.

The Therapy Strip

The core rubber tool delivering calibrated spinal pressure for passive vertebral decompression and deep back release.

Roll, Arch & Support Props

Used for restoration of natural spinal curvature and thoracic mobility through passive sequencing.
